- Danielle’s paper on the use of 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin to target cholesterol overload and treat the chronic inflammatory response to stroke is published in The Journal of Neuroscience

- Our neurofilament light biomarker collaboration with Dr. Meredith Hay is published at the Journal of Neuroinflammation 

- Notice of Award! The Precision Aging Network: Closing the Gap Between Cognitive Healthspan and Human Lifespan U19 Award is funded. Our lab will be helping with the molecular profile/biomarker discovery component of this project under the leadership of Dr. Carol Barnes and Dr. Matt Huentelman

- Notice of Award! In collaboration with Dean Rick Schnellmann the lab receives a 4 year Veteran's Administration Merit Award to study the effects of Fomoterol on stroke recovery

- Notice of Award! The Fondation Lequcq is funding our Transatlantic Network of Excellence Application and so The Stroke IMPaCT (STroke - Immune Mediated Pathways and Cognitive Trajectory) Network is born!

- Notice of Award! Vivian receives an R21 Award from the National Institute of Aging
- Jacob receives his third ARCS Foundation Scholarship

- Amanda and Jen’s article is selected as a “Reader Pick” and featured on the eNeuro Blog

- Vivian’s paper is published in Acta Neuropathologica Communications. This paper links the development of Alzheimer's disease pathology following stroke with a BACE1 dependent myelin repair mechanism 
- Amanda and Jen’s paper is published in eNeuro. This is the first paper to show that the high cholesterol content of the brain may be responsible for the chronic inflammatory response to stroke

- Megan begins her Ph.D program at the University of California, San Diego
- Kylie Calderon joins the lab as part of the Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP)

- Jacob receives his second ARCS Foundation Scholarship

- Jacob gets his first author manuscript, “Glial scars are permeable to the neurotoxic environment of chronic stroke infarcts”, published in Neurobiology of Disease. This is the first paper to show that chronic immune responses occurring within stroke infarcts are imperfectly sequestered from the rest of the brain by glial scars 
- Danielle Becktel joins the research team
