CD8 T Cell Mediated Disruption of the Blood-Brain Barrier

Friday, September 27, 2024 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

The Immunobiology Seminar Series presents:  "CD8 T Cell Mediated Disruption of the Blood-Brain Barrier"

Presenter Details

Aaron Johnson, PhD
Professor and Consultant
Departments of Immunobiology, Neurology, and Molecular Medicine
Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota

Dr. Johnson is interested in neuroimmunology, with a major emphasis on the role of CD8 T cells and the pore-forming molecule perforin on blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption.

Despite the enormous burden of morbidity and mortality due to neurological diseases associated with central nervous system vascular permeability, the underlying molecular mechanisms of how inflammatory cells promote BBB disruption remain poorly understood. To understand the mechanism of immune-mediated BBB disruption, Dr. Johnson uses both virus and cerebral malaria mouse models. He has also incorporated mouse models of glioblastoma multiforme and brain atrophy into his research program.  Read more
