Dr. Pyeon's research focuses on HPV-associated cancers, including investigating virus-host interactions to develop effective preventive and therapeutic strategies. Dr. Pyeon received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining MSU, he held an appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Pyeon’s research has shown that restoration of chemokine Cxcl14 expression dramatically suppresses tumor growth in mouse models by recruiting natural killer and T cells. The Pyeon Lab is investigating the mechanisms of CXCL14-mediated tumor suppression and developing chemokine-based novel immunotherapies to treat cervical cancer and head and neck cancers. Dr. Pyeon’s team has also shown that the interferon-inducible cytidine deaminase APOBEC3A functions as a restriction factor of HPV infection. Their ongoing research seeks to determine whether APOBEC3A upregulation in HPV-positive cells facilitates somatic mutagenesis for cancer progression. Read more
