National DNA Day Volunteers

Monday, April 20, 2020 - 8:00am to Friday, April 24, 2020 - 5:00pm

Dear students and post-docs,

We are looking for volunteers to participate in our 2nd Annual National DNA Day Outreach Event in Tucson, Arizona!

National DNA Day is an NIH-sponsored event held on April 25th to commemorate the discovery of the DNA double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 (https://www.genome.gov/dna-day).

Volunteers will go out to local Tucson high schools in teams of 2-3 during the week of April 20-24th, 2020 to give a brief presentation about DNA and to engage 9th and 10th grade biology students with fun, hands-on activities (filling out genetic wheels and extracting DNA from their own saliva!).

The time commitment for this event is one morning or afternoon shift (~4 hours) on a weekday of your choosing, and you’ll be able to add this awesome outreach event to your CV.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please fill out the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/cAw8PFdfcvJTUZ9GA

Last year, our team of more than 20 volunteers reached over 600 biology students grades 9-10 at three different high schools!  We are looking forward to expanding this event and building excitement about research within our Tucson community.

Sincerely,

The U of A DNA Day Team
