Role of Hexokinase enzymes in Modulating the Function of Immune Cells

Friday, May 9, 2025 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

The Department of Immunobiology presents: "Role of Hexokinase enzymes in Modulating the Function of Immune Cells"

Presenter Details

Hossein Ardehali, MD, PhD
Irving J. Levinson Professor of Cardiology
Associate Dean for Translational Research and Training
Associate Director, Sarver Heart Center
University of Arizona

Hossein Ardehali received M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University, and completed his medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He previously served as Thomas D. Spies Professor of Cardiac metabolism, Professor of Medicine - Cardiology, and Pharmacology and the director of the Center for Molecular Cardiology at Northwestern University. He joined the University of Arizona in March 2025 as the associate dean for translational research, director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), director of the Translational Research Program and as associate director of the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center. His research focuses on the role of mitochondria and metabolism in cardiovascular disease, with a focus on the role of iron in this process. His lab has shown that a disruption in the mitochondrial iron leads to cardiomyopathy, and that hexokinase binding to the mitochondria plays determines the fate of glucose.
