Precision medicine is an exciting new approach to healthcare. Genomics testing is increasingly accessible and affordable. These new technologies and healthcare approaches also raise important cultural, legal, and ethical questions: How can we ensure that all Arizonans have access to these advancements in healthcare? How can primary care doctors effectively counsel patients in using genomics data to make informed decisions about their health? And how can researchers play a role in helping to navigate these challenging questions? This half-day conference will explore these questions and more. About the ABRC
Originally known as the Arizona Disease Control Research Commission, the Arizona Biomedical Research Centre was established by the Arizona Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Bruce Babbitt in 1994. Its mission was to fund investigators focused on diseases and health issues that impact the residents of Arizona. In 2005, the commission changed its name to the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission. In 2011, ABRC was placed under the direction of the Arizona Department of Health Services.
