The sensing of microbes by the innate immune system is a critical step in the regulation of adaptive immunity. The overall goal of our research is the identification of the innate immune signals that are required to induce protective immune responses. Despite considerable interest in vaccine design, the signals necessary to induce protective immunity are currently poorly understood. The identification of such signals will be of important for the development of novel vaccine strategies and therapies for autoimmune and malignant diseases.
