Research:

Adherence factors involved in the interaction of diarrheagenic E. coli with host cells.

The ongoing research in my laboratory involves the study of the molecular mechanisms whereby bacteria cause disease and how they interact with host epithelial cells and the immune system. We are currently focusing on the role of flagella and novel adherence factors of several diarrheagenic Escherichia coli groups in host colonization and their putative role as proinflammatory molecules. Our goal is to further our knowledge of the interplay between pathogens and host cells in an effort to identify new targets for prevention and control of infections.
