Seminar Information:

The Aging and Resilience Seminar Series is designed to facilitate aging research and to foster new generations of investigators at the University of Arizona to address significant aging research questions. The seminar will bring UA researchers together to create synergies by sharing research findings and research plans. The series will also provide opportunities for UA researchers to meet and to hear from lead investigators of aging and resilience in other research institutions, specifically Pepper Centers. These activities are the core of the CHiiLi program – the Consortium to Halt Injury and Infection in older adults Leading to Independence.

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Magaziner is Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Research on Aging. The major focus of this work is to identify ways of enhancing functioning and improving the quality of life for older persons. His studies include examining changes in function, bone and muscle following hip fracture, and the design and implementation of interventions to improve outcomes from hip fractures. He is recognized for his leadership and expertise in the epidemiology of aging. He also directs the University of Maryland’s Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, funded by the NIA.
