The core mission of the Department of Immunobiology, consistent with the missions of the College of Medicine and the University of Arizona, is to perform cutting edge research and to disseminate its results through teaching of new health professionals, scientists and the public. Our research goals are to discover how microbial pathogens attack an organism, how the organism defends against such an attack, how the response is regulated in health and disease (including, but not limited to infectious and autoimmune diseases, cancer, and immunodeficiency) and what can be done to intervene in order to improve and regulate function of the immune system. The department trains and educates physicians, scientists and students in all areas of immunobiology and microbiology. A more detailed mission statement can be found here.
